SAHARAN MATS
The precise patterns of these pieces have a surprising similarity to primitive rupestrian drawings cut into the rocks of the Sahara, testifying to their ancient origins. Typical of nomadic cultures of the mauritanian and algerian Sahara, they are made using the only materials available in the desert; palm wood and dromedary skin. They made perfect insulation from the sand and were easy to carry rolled up when the caravan moved on.
